Are you passionate about live events? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same? Derby LIVE is searching for a dynamic Technical Manager to join the Event Services leadership team for of some of the most exciting events in the region!

From live concerts and exhilarating sports events to high-profile conferences and immersive exhibitions, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring every event runs flawlessly. If you love bringing events to life, this is the role for you!

Role Purpose

To plan, coordinate, and execute all technical aspects of events at Derby Arena, 19 Chapel Street and other venues as required. This includes managing audio, lighting, AV, staging, rigging, and power requirements across a wide variety of live events. The post holder will lead technical operations, manage staff and contractors, ensure safe working practices, and maintain technical infrastructure to deliver high-quality productions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver all technical elements for live events including concerts, sports, corporate functions, and exhibitions.
  • Lead and supervise the technical delivery team, including full-time staff, freelancers, and contractors.
  • Design, install, and operate event-specific AV, sound, lighting, and staging solutions.
  • Attend client briefings and site visits to interpret technical riders and ensure requirements are met.
  • Coordinate technical rehearsals and troubleshoot issues during live events.
  • Manage day-to-day workload of technical staff and support recruitment, training, appraisal and development.
  • Coordinate with any third-party suppliers for specialist services or large-scale productions.
  • Ensure staff and crew are working in accordance with health & safety policies and technical standards.
  • Implement and enforce venue safety procedures and event-specific risk assessments.
  • Maintain safe working practices especially for working at height, manual handling, and electrical safety.
  • Oversee the maintenance and inventory of all technical equipment.
  • Specify any technical upgrades, repairs, and equipment procurement.
  • Monitor technical budget and advise on cost-effective solutions and improvements.
  • Act as primary technical point of contact for promoters, producers, and event organisers.
  • Support internal and external clients in planning and delivering exceptional events.
  • Build strong relationships across departments to ensure smooth event delivery.
  • Maintain a good and up-to-date working knowledge of the latest event technologies.
  • Ensure that safe methods of working are adhered to all times, in accordance with HASWA Regulations, Normal and Emergency Operating Procedures, Risk, COSHH, Manual Handling Assessments and any other relevant legislation / guidelines, and comply with the Council's Accident and Incident Reporting Procedures and Safety Policy.
