Trainee Production Technician - TSL - Basingstoke

This role is split, initially in an equipment prep role taking place in the warehouse and moving towards onsite work as and when required.

Overview:

This role would suit a proactive, self-motivated individual capable of working accurately and methodically, often using their own initiative, in a constantly changing and often pressurised environment, in a fast moving company.

This role involves the following primary areas of activity:

  • When working in the warehouse, the preparation, servicing, testing, cleaning and packaging of the company’s equipment, as directed.  
  • When working onsite, acting as a representative of the company within a crew, on a broad range of events and productions.
  • Providing technical support whilst working on a broad range of projects to ensure that the company’s clients and project managers are provided with the highest level of service. 
  • Providing services on-site, in the delivery of the company’s projects. 
  • To represent the company and its reputation in an impeccable manner.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Loading and unloading of equipment from vehicles.  The role involves an element of manual handling of bulky and heavy technical equipment.
  • Provide support to the other teams within the company, to assist in other aspects of the business’s activity, as required.
  • Working in a support role to the company’s Lighting Designers or freelance Lighting Designers working with the Company. 
  • Undertake training in preparation of WYSIWYG & CAD drawings as required, adding infrastructure for lighting & rigging systems.
  • Host & coordinate visiting LDs and clients using the Company’s pre-programming facilities. Configure systems in advance and provide practical support to these clients.
  • Identify, assist and deliver technical training requirements within the company.
  • Help to improve the overall preparation and maintenance of equipment from experience and knowledge gained on site. 
  • Provide on site technical support within a wide range of products
  • Identify personal training needs and organise the relevant technical courses.
  • As directed, assist equipment prep stage of a project within the company’s warehouse facilities, to match clients requirements. Liaison with Operations Dept., in the completion of the show prep process and successful delivery of equipment orders to match client expectations.
  • When appropriate, keep the Line Manager and company’s systems up to date with all aspects of client contact, feedback, project progress and prospective commercial contact, both positive and negative. 
  • Provide support to the Directors, in other aspects of the business’s activity, as required, requested and directed.
  • Keep all work related information confidential and acting in a professional manner at all times, in all work and industry-social situations.
  • Identify any areas of our operation where you believe training and additional skills may be required or benefit yourself or the business.
  • Provide feedback within immediate team and to Reporting Line Manager of any areas of improvement, development or growth of the business identified.  Take a role within the team in problem solving and contribute to team & business improvement.
  • Be aware of and complying with the company Health and Safety Policy.
  • Ensure that the Company’s policies, rules, procedures and obligations are observed in carrying out the above duties. 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required: 

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentational skills with the ability to build relationships quickly. 
  • Demonstrable experience of drafting proposals and expressing an idea or concept to a client or industry partner, either written or verbal.
  • Proactive, self-motivated with the ability to work own initiative in a constantly changing and pressurised environment and fast developing company.
  • The ability to influence and problem solve effectively across all levels of the business.
  • Good working knowledge of the full range of current lighting and rigging equipment and practices.
  • Strong IT skills  with a working knowledge of WYSIWYG, CAD packages and Excel.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Full driving licence, own transport and passport required.
  • Ability to travel within the UK, Europe & internationally, often at short notice. 

As a trainee production technician, any time worked onsite at weekends is repaid as time off in lieu and no additional overtime payments are made for onsite working. Overtime incurred in the warehouse as part of working in a prep department will be paid as agreed.

A quarterly meeting will be held with the Trainee Production Technician, Warehouse Manager and Head of Projects towards the end of each carousel position to assess progress and development against the training matrix.
